The actor best known for leading the 1960s television adventure series Tarzan has passed away at the age of 86. In his later years, he stepped away from the spotlight, choosing a quieter life focused on family. However, his final chapter was marked by profound personal tragedy that drew national attention and left a lasting impact on those close to him.
In October 2019, a devastating incident unfolded at the family’s home in Santa Barbara, California. His wife, Valerie Lundeen, a former flight attendant and beauty pageant winner who had once held titles including Miss Florida USA, was fatally stabbed. The couple had been married for 35 years and shared three children together. Authorities responding to the scene confirmed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Their son, Cameron, was identified by law enforcement as the suspect. Deputies later located him outside the residence. According to official statements from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, he was considered a threat during the confrontation, and officers discharged their weapons, resulting in his death at the scene.
No deputies were injured. Investigations were launched following the incident. One year later, Ron Ely filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, alleging that his son had been surrendering when he was shot. Ron Ely, remembered by generations for portraying Tarzan, spent his final years largely out of public view.
