A tragic incident at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis has left the community in shock, with multiple victims affected during a school service at the church. Authorities identified the attacker as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who died by suicide following the event.
NAccording to official reports, Westman entered the church on Wednesday morning with firearms and carried out a deliberate attack. Multiple children and adults were injured, and investigators noted that some of the church’s doors had been obstructed, suggesting an attempt to trap victims inside.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the incident as an act of deliberate violence against innocent people.
Hours before the attack, Westman posted a suicide note and videos online, which have since been removed. In the writings, Westman discussed struggles with depression, mental health challenges, and personal hardships, while also asking loved ones to pray for the victims and their families. Authorities noted contradictions in the note, highlighting the complexity of Westman’s mindset leading up to the tragedy.

Court documents show that Westman legally changed their name from Robert to Robin in 2020, with family support. The shooter’s mother had previously worked at Annunciation Catholic School. Westman’s writings also mentioned personal confusion regarding gender identity.
Local leaders emphasized compassion and focus on the victims rather than the attacker’s identity. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged the public not to use the incident to stigmatize the transgender community, stating, “Kids died today. This needs to be about them.” A prayer vigil was held that evening, bringing together clergy, parents, and neighbors to mourn and support the families affected.
Investigators continue to review Westman’s online activity and the circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities have reiterated the importance of community support and mental health awareness as part of the ongoing response to this tragedy.
