Authorities have seized home surveillance footage that may provide key evidence in the investigation of the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. A resident told Fox News Digital that the device likely captured the suspect moving through a neighbor’s backyard shortly after the attack. Agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were seen at the home, removing the floodlight unit containing the camera for review.
The property, owned by the Steele family, sits along West Street in Orem and backs up to Campus Drive, near a potential escape route the gunman may have used. Erwin Steele said he believes the suspect ran down an alley, crossed through his family’s properties, and discarded the weapon along the way.
Investigators earlier recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle in a wooded area near the neighborhood, believed to be linked to the shooting. FBI Salt Lake City Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls confirmed that investigators also collected forensic evidence, including a palm print, footprint, and forearm impression. The bureau released images of a man dressed in black identified as a “person of interest” in the case.
Kirk, a 31-year-old father of two and founder of Turning Point USA, was struck in the neck while speaking under a tent in the campus courtyard. Footage of the shooting shows the crowd screaming and diving for cover as emergency responders rushed to assist. Separate video suggests the fatal shot came from roughly 200 yards away, likely from the rooftop of the Losee Center building. Authorities continue to review all evidence, including the newly seized surveillance footage, as the investigation into Kirk’s death remains active and ongoing.
