An investigation in Minneapolis is drawing national attention after video showed a federal immigration officer involved in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on the morning of January 7. New reporting says the officer, identified as Jonathan Ross, was previously involved in a serious on-duty incident that left him injured.
The developments have intensified public debate over enforcement tactics, transparency, and accountability as pressure continues to build online and within the city. Court documents cited in reports describe an earlier encounter on June 17, 2025 in Bloomington, Minnesota. During that incident, officers attempted to stop a suspect identified as Roberto Carlos Munoz, who was described as facing multiple allegations.
The situation escalated when Munoz allegedly refused to exit the vehicle, and Ross reportedly tried to gain access by breaking a rear-side window in an attempt to unlock the door. Authorities claim Munoz accelerated while Ross’s arm was caught, dragging him for more than 100 yards as the vehicle swerved from side to side. Ross reportedly suffered significant injuries to his arm and hand and required dozens of stitches.
Munoz was later arrested and faced federal charges related to assaulting an officer, according to the same reports. After the January 7 shooting, federal officials defended the officer’s actions, while local leaders sharply criticized the operation and its aftermath. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the incident and warned that aggressive enforcement strategies can create fear and mistrust in communities. The case remains under review as more details are sought and calls for clarity and oversight continue.
