A New Jersey nurse, Lexi Kuenzle, has filed a lawsuit against Englewood Health after being suspended for reporting a doctor who allegedly celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kuenzle, with over a decade of experience, claims the incident occurred shortly after news of Kirk’s fatal shooting during his Utah Valley University event.
Kuenzle alleges that Dr. Matthew Jung, a bariatric surgeon, expressed joy over Kirk’s death in front of staff and a patient. Shocked, she confronted him, questioning how a medical professional could celebrate anyone’s death. She later described the moment as “mind-blowing” and said it left her shaken for the rest of her shift.
After reporting the incident to management, Kuenzle says she was suspended without pay the following day and warned that her job could be at risk. Her attorney, John Coyle, argues the suspension is retaliation and violates New Jersey law, citing hostile work environment claims and whistleblower protections.
Englewood Health confirmed both Kuenzle and Jung were suspended pending an investigation, stating that Kuenzle had not been terminated. Dr. Jung’s profile was removed from the hospital website, fueling public scrutiny. The case has drawn national attention, with supporters praising Kuenzle for speaking up and critics questioning workplace boundaries. GOP activist Scott Presler publicly defended her, highlighting her courage and professionalism. This controversy underscores the challenges of balancing personal beliefs, professional ethics, and free expression in the workplace. As the investigation continues, both parties remain under public scrutiny, highlighting tensions in today’s polarized climate.
